- Duties: Attend faculty/staff meetings two times per month; act as liaison between students and faculty; plan three departmental gatherings (fall & spring picnics; winter party).
Faculty Recruitment

- Duties: Read new faculty apps (except letters of recommendation),
meet with faculty to identify a short list of candidates, organize grad meetings
(including breakfasts and lunches) and tours with candidates, and gather
grad student feedback in order to report back to the faculty.
Future Directions

- Duties: Meet with faculty regarding future and strategic direction for the Geography Department as a whole

Speakers Committee

- Duties: Coordinate Treacy lecture (selection, arrangements, reception) communicate with faculty regarding speaker series
Student Symposium

- Duties: Find an alumnus/ae to be keynote speaker; recruit graduates/undergraduates to present or
give posters (for next year the undergraduate part will involve some discussion with faculty/honors advisors to get
them to present or have posters ready); schedule rooms & organize sessions; coordinate post-keynote talk reception
with the undergrads; gather/print abstracts; organize the selection of the "best presentation"; design/post
advertisements for the symposium
Department Steward to TAA:
- Sigrid Peterson
- Act as a go-between for TAA members (and those geography grad students interested in becoming members) and the
TAA by expressing geography grad student concerns to TAA leadership; maintain, and hopefully increase, TAA membership
(and our bargaining base) within the Geography Department; attend steward's council meetings, typically once a month;
forward emails, messages, dates and times of important events, etc. to Geography grad students
