to Citing Geospatial Data, Maps and Atlases Guide to Latitude,
Longitude and UTM Coordinates on USGS Topographic Maps The staff of the Robinson Map Library are here to help users locate the materials they need from within the collection. We can help users with basic reference requests but have limited resources for in-depth research. It is preferred that users visit the Map Library in person, however, reference questions can be directed to the Robinson Map Library via e-mail: jstoltenberg@wisc.edu or by telephone: (608) 262-1471. Library users needing reference assistance should be able to provide library staff with adequate information about geographic areas or subjects of interest. Gazetteers or other reference sources can be consulted to obtain further information about particular places. Most of the maps and aerial photographs within
the Robinson Map Library's collection do circulate. Select aerial photography,
maps and digital geospatial data can be checked out for a loan period
of 4 weeks. Students, faculty, and staff of the University must have a current ID card to check out materials. Users who are not members of the UW community, but wish to check items out from the collection need to first obtain a UW-Madison General Library System borrowing card. Materials will not be checked out to individuals without either of these cards. Contact the Memorial Library Circulation Office at (608) 263-7360 for details regrading the GLS borrowing card. The Circulation Office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00am - 4:00pm. Photocopying, Scanning & Printing A black and white photocopier is available within the Map Library for users who wish to make copies of maps or aerial photographs. The photocopier accepts copy machine debit cards (not coins) and has two available paper sizes (8.5x11 and 11x17). Each copy is $0.10 regardless of page size. Copy machine debit cards may be purchased from the Geography Library on the 2nd floor of Science Hall. Three scanning workstations (11"x17" size scanner beds) are available within the Map Library for users wanting to scan and save digital copies of library materials. All Map Library public workstations can print to a black and white laser printer (8.5x11 only). Cost is $0.05 per page and a standard debit card must be used. Map Library workstations can also print to a color laser printer (8.5x11 only) located in room M376 of Science Hall. Cost is $0.25 per page and a standard debit card must be used. Geographic Information Systems Six public GIS workstations (along with ArcView 3.x and ArcGIS reference materials) are available for use within the library. Users can make appointments with the Map/GIS librarian for one-on-one assistance with locating geospatial data or working with ArcGIS 9.x and ArcView 3.x. Contact Jaime Stoltenberg (Librarian) for more information, or to make an appointment: (608) 262-1471. Please see the Map Library's GIS page for more information.
