Cartographic
Collections: The Robinson Map Library owns an extensive collection of historic aerial photography, primarily covering the state of Wisconsin, but also including some coverage for other states and even other countries. The air photos date from the 1930's to the 1990's. In addition, the library has more current coverage for Madison and Dane County. To find out what photography you can view at the Robinson Map Library, consult the State Cartographer's WI Catalog of Aerial Photography. Most of the collection consists of 9"x9" black and white photos, with the exception of some color 9"x9" or enlarged photos for certain Wisconsin counties. View a Sample Dane County color 1990 photograph. Accompanying the aerial photographs are mosaic indexes to assist users in locating the appropriate individual photos. Indexes are available for use in print or on CD-ROM. The library also holds mosaic indexes for areas where it does not contain actual photography, as a reference tool to help users first find the photo numbers they need to purchase or view them elsewhere. During hours that the Robinson Map Library is closed, users can visit (by appointment) the Wisconsin Department of Transportation's Surveying and Mapping Section office, located at 3502 Kinsman Blvd Madison, WI 53704. The DOT office also has an extensive
collection of historic aerial photography.
