Geography 675 - Special Topic: Land Use and Land Cover

Instructor: Amy Burnicki   burnicki@wisc.edu    Faculty Web Page
Schedule: TR, 8:00 – 9:15 am, 350 Science Hall

This course will focus on land cover and land use change (LCLUC) by examining both the dynamics of land change and the resulting consequences of these changes on the coupled human-physical environment. Several key themes in LCLUC will be investigated, including 1) detecting and measuring the extent and rate of LCLUC, 2) examining the causes of change, 3) monitoring the impacts and consequences of changes to both land-use and land-cover, and 4) exploring projected land-cover/land-use scenarios and their implications on climate variability. This course will integrate methodologies and theories from GIS, remote sensing, and spatial analysis and modeling to critically evaluate current land-use/land-cover change theory and research approaches.
