We want to provide the most realistic cost estimate for your project, and avoid changes that might affect your cost.

Following these suggestions for your project:

  1. Contact us. The Cartography Lab director is the the first contact. We will discuss what you have in mind, and what your deadlines are. This gives us a starting point for your estimate.
  2. Gather data that will be used as a source for your map. Make a list of all your sources, and determine what source data gaps you might have.
  3. Publishers. Contact your publisher to determine their exact requirements. Determine the size of your graphics: most publishers will specify the size(s) they require. Knowing the size before we begin ensures legibility in the finished product.
  4. Schedule a meeting with the Lab so that we can review your source data. Copies of the source data pages are more helpful at this point because we can mark them up as we talk. Bring a contact number for your publisher.
  5. Missing data. Based on our experience with your type of project, we may need you to gather more data or contact your publisher again. Know that this will help you to keep costs down and get your project done on schedule.
  6. Review the estimate and let us know if any requirements have changed or your have additional questions. SIgn and return your estimate.

One of the common issues that arise is that your concept of the map or project changes along the way or as new data is found. You must stay in touch with us so that changes can be negotiated and incorporated properly.
