The Office of the Dean
of International Studies oversees the Division of International Studies and the International Institute at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
The UW-Madison Division of International Studies was created in 1962 to manage a growing network of area and international studies programs. This campus unit coordinates international activity at the UW-Madison. Accelerating internationalization is a major UW goal, and the mission of the Division of International Studies is to promote international education and cooperation both on- and off-campus. International Studies also is a pioneer in developing study abroad opportunities
through IAP. UW-Madison ranks among the top 10 study-abroad programs.
The International Institute, established jointly with the College of Letters and Science in 1996, leads the nation in the field. Its sixteen member programs, eight of which are federally funded national resource centers, promote knowledge of virtually every world region.
