Dr. Hans van Himbergen
Vice-Rector of International Educational Affairs, and Dean of University College Utrecht, Utrecht University (Netherlands) Hans van Himbergen has been Vice-Rector of International Educational Affairs at Utrecht University since 2001. In this position, he helped realign the university's degree programs after the EU Bologna process, and is currently involved in building partnerships with universities abroad.
In 2004, Dr. van Himbergen was named Dean of University College Utrecht (UCU), Utrecht University's international honors college of liberal arts and sciences, and a pioneering institution of its kind in the Netherlands. He co-founded UCU in 1997, and has led the College's science program since its inception.
Dr. van Himbergen earned a Ph.D. in theoretical physics from Utrecht University in 1976. He held positions at MIT, the University of California at Santa Barbara, and Case Western Reserve University before returning to the University of Utrecht. At Utrecht, he was named Professor of Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics in 1989, and Professor of Theoretical Physics in 1992. He has served as Dean of the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy (1995-2001), and also chaired the physics section of the League of Cooperating Dutch Universities. Since 2000, he has been a member of the physics and astronomy advisory council of the Royal Netherlands Society of Arts and Sciences. |
