Dr. Hans vanHimbergenDr. Eric Froment
President, European University Association

Eric Froment is a Professor of Economics at the University of Lumière-Lyon 2 (France), and has been President of the European University Association (EUA) since 2001.

In this position, his work has been to ensure that universities in Europe speak with a single voice, and that the fundamental role of universities is recognized in both the field of research and the Bologna process.

Dr. Froment received a Master's degree in Economics and Political Science from the Université de Lyon, and a Doctorate in Economics from the Université de la Sorbonne (1971). At the Université de Lyon 2, he was elected Dean of the Faculty of Economics (1973-1977), Vice-president of the university (1978-1981), and finally President (1991-1996). He has also worked on government-university contract policy for the French Ministry of Education (1996-1998), and served as Treasurer of the Association of European Universities (CRE) (1994-1998), and Chief Executive of the French National Conference of University Presidents (1998-2001). He was responsible for the launch of a European pilot project for the exchange of professors in the social sciences between the Université de Lyon 2, the Universidad de Barcelona, and the Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität in Frankfurt.
